Después de algunas BETAS y 2 Release Candidates, la versión definitiva de Audacious sale a la luz.

Audacious ya no es más un fork de XMMS y BPM, pues han reescrito el código con las partes que quedaban de estos 2 reproductores de audio. Lo que deja camino abierto para la próxima versión 2.0, enteramente enfocada en Audacious.

Se han añadido nuevos plugins:
wavpack: soporta formatos basados en WAVPACK
alarm plugin: es un puerto del XMMS Alarm
metronom plugin: el cual provee un metronomo
stdio plugin: para soporte tipo file:// streams.
tta plugin: soporta archivos de formato TrueAudio
curl plugin: provee transporte a través de http y https
mms plugin: el cual conecta a Audacious con libmms para mms:// streams.
statusicon plugin: minimiza Audacious a la barra de tareas (lo que antes se hacía instalando el Docklet Plugin)
rovascope plugin: parecido al “visualizador inteligente” del Winamp
evdev-plug plugin: permite que dispositivos tipo evdev-compatible sean usados
aosd plugin: provee una muestra en pantalla
madplug plugin: que reemplaza al mpegdec

Mejoras a los plugins:
El plugin de consola ahora soporta archivos AY, KSS, HES y SAP.
El plugin modplug ahora estrcutura libmodplug en linea.
El plugin paranormal ahora incluye una implemetntación SuperScope, un scripted blitter, y una implementación del ‘AVS’ “Trans / Dynamic Movement”.
El plugin scrobbler ahora soporta el servicio Gerpok service, parecido al last.fm, además de un sporte experimental para Hatena.
El plugin vorbis ha sido radicalmente reescrito.

Se ha mejorado la compatibilidad con GTK, además de las continuas mejoras en cuanto a uso de memoria y velocidad.
